About John

I first started taking pictures when on my mountain bike adventures in the late 1980's with a film camera.

I then switched my focus to mountain bike racing and I didn’t pick up a camera for another 17 years.

I have raced bicycles since an early age, in a variety of different disciplines. From BMX to Road bikes but mostly mountain bikes. I competed in the three disciplines in the mountain bike sport which included cross-country, observed-trails and downhill racing. In 1998, Having raced cross-county for 11 years, I decided to turn my training towards downhill racing. In 2004, I reached my peak in mountain bike downhill racing where I placed 1st overall in the UK National rankings. I was also English, Scottish and Regional Masters downhill champion in the same year.

In 2007, I was recovering from a badly injured shoulder after a biking accident, although I could still walk, this meant no biking for at least 3 months. I then started to go on regular country walks. On these walks I started taking pictures again, but this time with a digital camera phone. It was not long before I bought a proper digital camera and one thing led to another.

I am now a semi professional photographer. My work is sold around the world and I have had my work published in books, magazines and the National Press as well as being on the winners list at the UK Landscape Photographer of the Year awards in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

I have covered most things from commercial work to wedding photography, but my passion is atmospheric landscape photography. This often means being in hard to reach places at unsociable hours, waiting in the cold for the first light of the day.
